You may live with someone for 17 years and still find out new things about them.
Being a pen addict it comes naturally that I gifted several fountain pens to every member of our little household. I knew that my wife likes ultra extra fine pens the most so I got her a beautiful Pelikan Souverän M400 White. The pen then travelled to Los Angeles where the legendary Mike Masuyama grinded the extra fine nib to a needlepoint. My wife was happy with the nib though the pen was a bit too shiny for her.
First of all she dislikes accents, especially gilded ones. Second of all she doesn’t like “big” nibs (if you can call this M400 nib such). She came to like hooded nibs more. Though it saddens me to part with such a pretty pen, we have decided to sell the Pelikan.
A friend of mine was so kind as to lend me her Pilot Vanishing Point so that my wife can try it out. She liked it and choose a nice Decimo in place of the more luxurious Souverän. So it’s “new pen day” today and she is absolutely happy with her new pen and its smooth nib. She is happy and we have a new pen so that makes me double happy too.
