The legendary John Coltrane was born 94 years ago. The Messiah of Jazz and saint of the African Orthodox Church was someone who expressed his deep spiritual belief through his music and also revolutionising jazz in the meantime on more than one occasions.
Below is his poem “A Love Supreme“ in his own handwriting. This is the very poem intoned via his saxophone on his 1965 album of the same name. “A Love Supreme“ is an absolute masterpiece and one of the greatest achievements of his short career. For me the piece “Psalm” that features this poem on saxophone is the highlight of the album.
